DIC Benefits For Parents of Deceased Veterans Can Help Pay For Home & Community Based Care
Practice Area: Veterans Benefits
Did you have a child who served in the U.S. military who died of a service-connected injury or condition?
You may be eligible for Parents' Dependency Indeminity Compensation(DIC) benefits.
"Parent" means you are the biological parent, adoptive parent or step-parent, or you served "in loco parentis" for at least one year before the veteran's 21st birthday and entry into active duty.
You must prove that your IVAP (countable income for VA purposes) minus your un-compensable medical expenses is less than the maximum. Each year you will have to submit current financial information and your health care costs.
If you are a low-income person with high healthcare or assisted living expenses, this benefit could really help.
